IRVINE, Calif. (Jan. 25, 2007) –– Time is running out! Only one week remains to visit www.volvoforlifeawards.com and vote for your favorite hometown heroes in the Fifth Annual Volvo for life Awards –– the nation’s largest annual search for and celebration of everyday heroes. When the poll closes Feb. 4, 2007, the top three vote getters in the categories of Safety, Quality of Life and Environment will be in the hands of celebrities including Sen. Bill Bradley, Hank Aaron and Caroline Kennedy who will chose and name three winners. In April, one of those three will be named “America’s Greatest Hometown Hero” and receive a new car every three years for life.
Additional Volvo for life Awards judges include Paul Newman, Maya Lin, Dr. Sally Ride, Eunice Kennedy Shriver, Val Kilmer and the four previous Volvo for life Awards grand winners.
More than half a million votes already have been cast, but this year’s race will go down to the wire. It’s not too late to support your local heroes, five representing each state, with a vote and help bring more funding to your community. Volvo is giving a total of nearly $1 million in financial contributions – three winners will receive $50,000 for their cause, six remaining finalists win $25,000 and one Grand Prize winner will get a new Volvo for the rest of his or her life.
Volvo and members of the celebrity-judging panel will honor the winning heroes on April 5, 2007 at the 42nd St. Cipriani during the 5th Annual Volvo for life Awards Ceremony. There, Volvo will reveal which of the three top heroes is also the Grand Award winner of a Volvo vehicle every three years for the rest of his or her life.
