Rockleigh, N.J. (January 14, 2011) -  Volvo Cars of North America, LLC (VCNA) today announced reduced pricing for the new 2012 Volvo S60 T5 FWD sport sedan of $30,975*, a $450 lower price than previously communicated. Further adding to the S60 T5's value proposition is a special introductory lease rate of $299 per month, which is available until February 28, 2011.

Pricing for the hot 2012 S60 T6 AWD remains unchanged from its introductory MSRP of $37,700*. Both S60 models are on sale now. Full details regarding options and packages may be found at http://www.volvocars-pr.com/.

"The S60 T5 takes best-in-class to the head of the class," said VCNA President and CEO, Doug Speck, "but it does so with no sacrifice to performance or safety, while still achieving outstanding fuel economy." With a starting price of $30,975, the S60 T5 is best-in-class for value. The T5 boasts best-in-class fuel economy of 30 mpg on the highway and 20 mpg in the city, for combined fuel economy of 23 mpg. In terms of performance, the T5 is best-in-class with a 0-60-mph time of only 6.8 seconds. Volvo's Safe + Secure Coverage Plan is a best-in-class warranty and maintenance coverage program and offers the lowest cost of luxury ownership according to IntelliChoice. The S60 is also the only car in the segment with standard City Safety and available Pedestrian Detection with Full Auto Brake.

The S60 T5 packs more style, performance and technology than many of its competitors, but at a substantially lower price of only $30,975. In fact, the new S60 T5 is the most value oriented premium sport sedan in its segment, besting the BMW 3 Series, Mercedes-Benz C Class, Audi A4 and the Lexus IS250. Until February 28, 2011, customers interested in leasing a new S60 T5 can do so for just $299 a month. The lease term is 36 months and $2,993 cash is due at signing.

The new S60 T5 is powered by a revised 2.5-liter turbocharged inline-5 cylinder engine that produces 250-horsepower and 266 lb.-ft. of torque from 1,800 - 4,800 rpm. The engine includes a new aluminum block and reinforced connecting rods, pistons and piston rings. It also features an "over boost" that bumps torque to 295 ft.-lb. for up to 10 seconds in 2nd-6th gears. With a best-in-class 0-60 mph time of just 6.8 seconds, the S60 T5 is faster than a BMW 328i automatic, Mercedes-Benz C300 automatic, Lexus IS250 automatic and the Audi A4 2.0 CVT.

Power is generated to the S60 T5's front wheels through Volvo second-generation 6-speed automatic Geartronic transmission, the same gearbox that's found on the S60 T6. One new feature standard on the 2012 T5 and T6 is "Automatic" Sport Mode. This new function allows the S60 to be driven in sport mode (adjusting the transmission shift pattern to improve performance) without the need for the driver to manually shift the Geartronic transmission.

The new 2012 S60 T5 and T6 are included in Volvo's segment leading Safe + Secure Coverage Plan. The program provides best-in-class coverage and offers the lowest cost of luxury ownership (according to IntelliChoice). The Safe + Secure Coverage Plan means Volvo owners pay nothing to repair or maintain their vehicles for 5 years or 60,000 miles**. Specifically, it includes:

  • 5 years/60,000 miles of New Car Warranty
  • 5 years/60,000 miles of Complimentary Factory Scheduled Maintenance
  • 5 years/60,000 miles of Wear and Tear Coverage
  • 5 years/Unlimited miles of Volvo On Call Roadside Assistance.

To assist in building consumer awareness of the S60, VCNA will launch an aggressive TV advertising campaign running in both primetime and national cable programming. The two new commercials focus on the numerous accolades the S60 has received and its competitive advantages.

Since its launch in September 2010, the all-new S60 has received numerous awards and accolades. Recently acknowledged by the New York Times as a Top 10 Car of 2010, the S60 was also awarded an Automobile Magazine All-Star.  Popular Science Magazine has also recognized the S60 for its ground-breaking Pedestrian Detection with Full Auto Brake driver assistance system.
