Volvo's Vice President of Human Resources to be Honored at the North American International Auto Show

ROCKLEIGH, N.J. (January 11, 2010) - Juanita Ragland Doby, vice president of human resources for Volvo Cars of North America, LLC (VCNA) will receive a Lifetime Achievement Award at the 14th annual Urban Wheel Awards gala prior to the opening of the North American International Auto Show in Detroit.  The awards program annually honors automotive companies for their outstanding achievements in diversity and minority business development, as well as individuals in the industry, who have significantly impacted society.

"As vice president of HR at Volvo and diversity executive of the Premiere Automotive Group Diversity Council, Juanita helped to diversify the employment practices of Jaguar, Land Rover and Volvo," said Randi Payton, president and CEO of On Wheels Media.  "Juanita is also being honored as the first African-American woman vice president of diversity in the auto industry.  She is an example of how fostering diversity within a company naturally changes the way a company does business."

Doby, a Volvo employee since 1980, has held various critical leadership positions in both VCNA headquarters and field operations, including customer service, market development, business management, warranty policy, facilities, Six Sigma and other core business unit functions.  Today, she continues to provide leadership on strategic initiatives and policy development, and is also responsible for all human resources functions for the U.S. and Canada, including recruitment, retention, diversity and inclusion, employee relations, compensation and benefits, training, organizational development, relocation, succession planning, and labor relations.

"I am so honored to receive the prestigious Urban Wheel Lifetime Achievement Award, but it does not belong to me alone," Doby said.  "This would not have been possible without the efforts of the Volvo leadership team and all of our employees.  Together, we work hard to deliberately integrate diversity and inclusion into every aspect of our business.  We truly embrace this as a business imperative and as a social responsibility to make a difference.  Consistent with Volvo values and beliefs, our commitment to diversity and inclusion is authentic and unwavering, a part of our life.  It is a journey, and although not perfect, and we constantly strive for progress.  I am both humbled and inspired by this monumental recognition of our efforts."

The 14th annual Urban Wheel Awards gala will be held on January 12 at 5:00 p.m. in the new Sound Board Theater, MotorCity Casino Hotel, 2901 Grand River Avenue, Detroit, Mich.
