Jan Ivarsson's career at Volvo spans 20 years of safety research and development. His most recent position as senior manager of safety Strategy and Requirements started in 1998 at Volvo Cars Safety Center in Gothenburg, Sweden.
Beginning with the introduction of SIPS (Side Impact Protection System) in 1991, Jan has been project leader for many of Volvo's from safety perspective bringing barrier braking unique safety functions to market. Jan also managed the development of the SIPS-bag in 1994, followed by safety vehicle functionality in the 1998 S80, which introduced WHIPS and the Inflatable Curtain.
Presently Jan is charged with the research behind the development of, and the introducing of, the third generation of safety to Volvo cars and the safety community.
