Autonomous drive technology - Surround radars
As a part of the autonomous driving project Drive Me, Volvo Cars is presenting a unique, complete system solution that makes it possible to integrate self-driving cars in real traffic – with ordinary people in the driver’s seat. The 76 GHz frequency-modulated, continuous wave radar is placed in the windscreen and combined with a camera. It detects objects on the road. Four radars behind the front and rear bumpers (one on each corner of the car) are able to locate objects in all directions. Long-range radars are placed in the rear of the car ensure a good rearward detection of vehicles in parallel lanes.
