Volvo Cars of North America Reports Steady Sales
IRVINE, CA - October 1, 2001 - Volvo Cars of North America, LLC reports sales through September remain ahead of last year. Sales year to date (YTD) are up 3.5% in the United States and 17% in Canada. Although the 8,427 units sold for the month reflect a decrease from September 2000, there were fewer selling days last year compared to 2001 resulting in a daily sales rate increase of 1.6%.
As with most of the auto industry, sales for the period were down. "September was a very difficult month for all. For the retailers, our primary focus was reassuring and assisting their customers and employees," said Vic Doolan, VCNA President and CEO. "Confidence is slowly returning and we see encouraging signs for higher sales ahead." he said.
In a season characterized by end-of-the-model-year initiatives and making room for shipments of the 2002s, sales the Cross Country and the S60 continued to reflect a high level of customer appeal. Overall, Volvo Cars topped the 100,000 vehicle milestone the earliest of any calendar year on record.
