(MAHWAH, NJ) Feb. 22, 2023 – Volvo luxury SUVs and wagons have been named Car and Driver ‘Editors’ Choice Award’ winners for 2023. Winners include the XC40, XC60, and XC90 luxury SUVs and the V60 Cross Country and V90 Cross Country luxury wagons.
The winning cars are all praised for their interior styling and features with the award-winning XC90 noted for its “super-Swede styling” and “masterpiece of an interior.” It’s not the first time Volvo cars have made the prestigious honor roll, which represents a broader, more encompassing seal of approval of highly accomplished vehicles from Car and Driver editors. Numerous Volvo cars have been selected over the many years including the following wins over the last decade:
Many of these vehicles have also won several other awards. The XC60 was a 2018 North American Utility of the Year and a 2018 World Car of the Year winner. The XC90 was 2016 North American Utility of the Year and 2016 Motor Trend SUV of the Year.

The criteria used to determine the vehicles selected for the Editors’ Choice list include the results of Car and Driver’s industry-leading rigorous instrumented testing; editors’ subjective evaluations of each vehicle’s performance; how well a vehicle fulfills its intended mission; and the ranking each vehicle earns within its market segment versus its competitors. That rank can be found on each vehicle’s 2023 make-model page on CarandDriver.com under the heading “Where This Vehicle Ranks.” Only vehicles that are on sale in 2023, and those that the staff has hands-on driving experience with, are eligible for Editors’ Choice.
