Volvo Cars of North America Goes High Style and High Performance for 2005 Greater Los Angeles Auto Show

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

January 5, 2005 (Los Angeles, CA) – With the glittering towers of downtown Los Angeles as a backdrop, Volvo Cars of North America, LLC (VCNA) unleashed a salvo of design and performance "concept" cars today at the 2005 Greater Los Angeles Auto Show. In keeping with this year's show theme, Design Los Angeles, VCNA is displaying a number of stirring and thought-provoking vehicles designed around moving the brand forward in terms of performance and style while maintaining Volvo's core values of safety and care for the environment.

"When we heard about this year's theme for the 2005 LA auto show we couldn't resist rolling out our most powerful design and performance statements," commented Vic Doolan, President and CEO of Volvo Cars of North America, LLC. "2004 was a high performance year for Volvo, so it was only fitting to show off some of our high performance vehicles."

While many of these one-off creations have been seen before, the 2005 Greater Los Angeles auto show is the first time all of these vehicles have been showcased under one roof. There is one surprise, however. The 2005 Volvo XC90 V8, custom painted in a striking yellow reminiscent of Italian exotic cars, is being shown for the first time today (see separate release). With its lowered stance, custom body work and incredible power – an estimated 600 horsepower – this is one SUV that's designed to turn heads.

On display for media days are no fewer than nine over-the-top concepts. Aside from the yellow XC90, other vehicles populating the stand include the Lego Volvo XC90, the Britto V50, painted and signed by renowned artist Romero Britto, a Sonic Blue Volvo V50 SV with a 340-horsepower turbocharged engine, the Evolve S40 with its unique Formula 1 inspired rear suspension, and the Volvo Extreme Gravity Car, perhaps the most environmentally conscious Volvo ever built!

VCNA, part of the Volvo Car Corporation of Gothenburg, Sweden, provides marketing, sales, parts, service, technology and training support to Volvo automobile retailers in the United States, and oversees Volvo operations in Canada, Mexico and Puerto Rico.

Volvo has been building cars with safety in mind for over 75 years. The 2005 Volvo Cars model line-up includes: the award-winning new S40 and its wagon counterpart the all-new V50; the award-winning XC90; the sporty S60 sedan – including the award-winning performance sedan – S60 R and the performance wagon version – V70 R; the flagship S80 luxury sedan; versatile V70 wagon and rugged XC70 (Cross Country); and, the C70 convertible.
