African refugee and widowed mother of ten, now living in Peoria, Ariz., Rose Mapendo, was named America’s Greatest Hometown Hero at the Volvo for life Awards (www.volvoforlifeawards.com) tonight at Cipriani’s. Mapendo received $50,000 and a new Volvo every three years for the rest of her life from Anne Bélec, Volvo’s CEO. She was honored for her work to protect and rescue African refugees.
