(March 29, Beijing) Volvo Car Corporation announced today that Dr. Alexander Klose will take up the newly created post as Volvo Cars China CEO, reporting directly to Mr. Fredrik Arp, President & CEO of Volvo Car Corporation. In this newly created role, Dr. Klose will manage the Marketing, Sales & Service functions and the Industrial Operations of Volvo Cars China, as well as overseeing Volvo's operations across Asia.
Volvo Car Corporation achieved excellent results in the China market in 2006 and continued its rapid growth in the first quarter of 2007. Its total retail delivery volume in 2006 exceeded 7,000 units, a 50% increase year-on-year. In addition, Volvo Cars introduced its all-new S80 and new XC90 to the China market in 2006, and successfully localized production of the S40 in Chongqing. All of these measures strengthened Volvo Cars' position in the premium car market and enriched its product line-up in China. As a result, Volvo Cars was able to offer more choice to Chinese customers and significantly enhanced its brand image.
To guarantee its continued expansion in China, Volvo Car Corporation has established this new position and assigned it to Dr. Klose.
"I am very pleased to make this announcement and am fully confident that Alex will bring us a promising future in China," said Mr. Arp.
"We will continue to bring the best products to China and attach great importance to the China market. Chinese consumers will see more exciting Volvo cars in 2007 and beyond," Dr. Klose said.
Per Norinder, currently the General Manager of Volvo Cars China, will continue with his role in Sales and Marketing.
