Autonomous drive technology – Multiple beam laser scanner
As a part of the autonomous driving project Drive Me, Volvo Cars is presenting a unique, complete system solution that makes it possible to integrate self-driving cars in real traffic – with ordinary people in the driver’s seat. A multiple beam laser scanner is placed in the front of the vehicle. The scanner can identify objects in front of the car and ensures very high angle resolution. It can also distinguish between objects. The unique laser sensor has a range of 150 metres for vehicles and covers a 140°field of view. The image illustrates functionality of technologies that are being developed and tested by Volvo Cars. The technology is currently not available in any Volvo cars.
