Volvo unleashes awesome power at Canadian International Auto Show

For immediate release

TORONTO (February 16, 2005) –Two modified Volvo powerhouses, destined to attract attention to the Swedish carmaker's exciting line of vehicles, made their Canadian debut when Volvo Cars of Canada Ltd. unveiled a supercharged V8-powered XC90 and an exotic Evolve-built Volvo S40 at the opening of the Canadian International Auto Show in Toronto.

The refined new 2006 Volvo XC90 V8 has undergone a radical transformation to produce an eye-popping show car. Boasting a lowered stance, an aggressive body styling treatment and high performance wheels and tires, the supercharged XC90 V8 takes Volvo's hot-selling SUV to the next level. But the transformation is more then skin deep. The V8 is designed to deliver more than 600 horsepower through its six-speed automatic "Geartronic" transmission and standard electronically controlled all-wheel drive system.

The supercharged XC90, however, is still a Volvo, meaning that wrapped within its radical new looks are a number of state-of-the-art safety systems. Introduced with a long list of safety features when it debuted in 2003, the Volvo XC90 is equipped with standard Roll Stability Control (RSC), Inflatable Curtain (IC) for all three rows of seats, pyrotechnically charged pretensioning seatbelts in all seating positions and an incredible Dolby Pro Logic surround sound stereo system.

The production XC90 V8 is also making its first Canadian appearance at the Toronto show.

Evolve Cars Inc. has created a masterpiece of design and engineering in the exciting S40 sport sedan. Extensively modified with a larger turbo and other upgrades, the Evolve S40 puts out an estimated 425 horsepower to all four wheels via the Haldex electronically controlled all-wheel drive system.

Outside, the Evolve S40's custom silver and titanium metallic paint treatment and tastefully crafted body kit give the car a new attitude. Ultra high performance tires envelope 19-inch lightweight wheels that openly display incredible 380mm disc brakes and 8-piston aluminum brake calipers.

Both high performance Volvos will be on display February 18-27, 2005, at the Canadian International Auto Show.

Volvo Cars of Canada Ltd. is part of the Volvo Car Corporation of Göteborg, Sweden.
