Volvo is introducing two new four-cylinder engines to the Volvo S80 executive saloon and all-new Volvo V70 estate ranges. A 2-litre naturally-aspirated petrol and a 2-litre turbodiesel engine will offer Volvo S80 and V70 customers new entry level engine choice and a combination of improved fuel economy and lower CO2 emissions. Production begins later this year and first customer deliveries are expected in January 2008.
"More and more buyers focus on fuel economy. It is highly important for us to give them more choices by making four-cylinder engines available in the new Volvo V70 and S80 models too. The 2-litre alternatives offer a very attractive combination of fuel economy and driving pleasure," says Lex Kerssemakers, Senior Vice President Brand, Business and Product Strategy at Volvo.
The four-cylinder 2-litre turbodiesel provides 136PS and 320Nm of torque and uses second-generation common rail technology, provides rapid throttle response and is fitted with a maintenance-free regenerating Diesel Particulate Filter as standard. Preliminary figures show that combined fuel consumption will be a frugal 47.1mpg in the Volvo V70 and 47.9mpg in the Volvo S80. UK prices will be announced later this year.
The 2-litre petrol unit features four-valve technology and a modern fuel injection system to provide 145PS and 185Nm of torque to both the Volvo V70 and S80. The engine offers the same efficient combustion technology and exhaust gas treatment as other Volvo engines which minimises emissions and provides good fuel economy. Preliminary combined fuel consumption figures show a return of 34mpg in the all-new Volvo V70 and 34.9mpg in the Volvo S80. The 2-litre petrol variant becomes the new entry level engine for both ranges and UK prices will be announced later this year.
