2006 Volvo V70 wagon offers next-generation AWD

TORONTO (July 4, 2005) – Volvo Cars of Canada Ltd. today announced that the 2006 V70 would offer the company’s next-generation all-wheel drive system.

 

The electronically-controlled AWD system now includes Instant Traction for faster distribution of engine power to the rear wheels. First seen on the 2006 XC90 V8, AWD with Instant Traction is now available with every 2006 Volvo vehicle.

 

Previously available only as an option, the Geartronic shifting feature is now standard on the V70 2.5T to allow manual shifting of the automatic transmission. For T5 models, last year’s standard 16” Eurus alloy wheels have been replaced with 17” Orpheus.

 

The optional Convenience Package now includes rear parking assistance and a 12-volt outlet in the luggage area.

 

The manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP) for the 2006 V70 starts at $39,120 for the 2.4i with a 2.4-litre, 168-horsepower 5-cylinder engine and 5-speed manual transmission (add $1,500 for a 5-speed automatic with Geartronic). The 2.5T trim with a 2.5-litre, turbocharged, 208-horsepower, 5-cylinder engine with a 5-speed automatic transmission with Geartronic starts at $42,120. For those looking for engine power to be sent to all four wheels, the 2.5T AWD is equipped with all-wheel-drive with Instant Traction and has an MSRP of $47,120. The MSRP for the performance-oriented V70 T5 with a 257-horsepower, turbocharged, 2.4-litre, 5-cylinder engine and 6-speed manual transmission starts at $49,120 (add $1,500 for a 5-speed automatic with Geartronic). In addition to engine and transmission choices, a host of option packages are available to further customize the V70.
