Popular Volvo S40 and V50 models receive minor updates

TORONTO (July 4, 2005) – The Volvo S40 sports sedan and V50 sportswagon, completely new for the 2005 model year, will receive minor upgrades for 2006 to improve the driving experience, appearance and safety.

 

Optional with the T5 models, the next-generation electronically-controlled all-wheel drive system now includes Instant Traction for faster distribution of engine power to the rear wheels. T5 models equipped with a 6-speed manual transmission will now include a ‘push down’ function to engage reverse gear.

 

To further compliment the 218-horsepower T5 buyers enjoy is an available Sport Styling Package. In addition to a rear spoiler and skirt kit, the Sport Styling Package includes a sport steering wheel and shift knob with aluminum inlays, a leather shift boot and unique floor mats.

 

For all trim levels, the S40 and V50 benefit from new, improved cup-holders and new software logic for the rear seat belt reminder.

 

The S40 starts with a manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP) of $31,120 for the 2.4i with a 2.4-litre, 168-horsepower, 5-cylinder engine and 5-speed manual transmission. The 2.5-litre, turbocharged, 218-horespower, 5-cylinder engine T5 trim with a 6-speed manual transmission has an MSRP of $37,120.

 

The V50 enters the market with a MSRP of $32,620 for the 2.4i with the same base engine as the S40. The MSRP for the 218-horsepower T5 with a 6-speed manual transmission is $38,620.

 

Optional equipment for both the S40 and V50 include a 5-speed automatic transmission with Geartronic ($1,500), all-wheel-drive with Instant Traction ($2,500 on the T5) and a host of option packages.
