TORONTO (July 4, 2005) – The high-performance Volvo S60 R and V70 R vehicles will be equipped with the next-generation all-wheel drive system with Instant Traction, and a new 6-speed automatic transmission for 2006.
The electronically-controlled AWD with Instant Traction is designed to distribute engine power to the rear wheels faster from a standstill. First seen on the 2006 XC90 V8, AWD with Instant Traction is now available with every 2006 Volvo vehicle.
A new 6-speed automatic transmission is also new for 2006. The new 6-speed is able to accommodate the engine’s full 295 lb.-ft. of torque, replacing last year’s 5-speed automatic.
V70 R vehicles will also be equipped with a new 12-volt outlet in the luggage area.
The 300-horsepower S60 R and V70 R, with a 2.5-litre, high pressure turbocharged 5-cylinder engine and 6-speed manual transmission, has a manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP) of $60,620 and $61,620, respectively. The new 6-speed automatic transmission adds $1,500 to the price.
