Irvine, CA - September 4, 2002 -- Volvo Cars of North America, LLC. (VCNA) reports 11,397 cars sold in the United States and Canada for the month of August - the second highest level on record for the month - yet compared year over year sales were down 13.3 percent.
The S60, Volvo's sales leader, showed continued growth in one of the most competitive market segments. Volvo S60 sales are up 12.1 percent and 28.7 percent in the United States and Canada, respectively.
Moving toward year-end, Volvo has reason for optimism with its much-anticipated SUV - the XC90 - due to showrooms in November. Volvo's first-ever Sports Utility Vehicle has created an unprecedented situation for the company: 4,000 pre-orders.
VCNA provides marketing, sales, parts, service, technology and training support to Volvo automobile retailers in the U.S., Canada, Mexico and Puerto Rico.
The 2002 Volvo automobile line includes the sporty S60, the flagship S80 luxury sedan, the versatile V70 wagon and rugged Cross Country, C70 Coupe and convertible, and the compact S40 and V40 models.
