TORONTO -- Sales of 609 Volvo automobiles in February advanced 5.5 per cent from the 577 units sold in the same month last year, Volvo Cars of Canada Ltd. reported today.

Year-to-date sales total 1,089 cars vs 1,010 sold in the first two months of 2001, an improvement of 7.8 per cent.

Strong consumer interest in the new Volvo S60 AWD (all wheel drive) helped build retailer traffic during the month and contributed to the steady sales growth, said Volvo Cars of Canada president Paul Cummings. "Winter is when all-wheel-drive cars generate the most interest and the security of the S60 AWD has been a very attractive proposition to buyers," said Cummings. "The 2002 S60 AWD is outpacing initial sales estimates, comprising more than 25 per cent of overall S60 sales."

Volvo Cars of Canada is part of the Volvo Car Corporation of Göteborg, Sweden.
