Cross Country Proves Equally At Home On The Town Or Off The Road

IRVINE, CA. (December 10) - Volvo Cars of North America, LLC announced that its rugged Cross Country sport wagon wins the "Hybrid SUV" category of the Annual Texas Truck Rodeo, once again proving its versatility. The event, sponsored by the Texas Auto Writers Association, was held in late October in that "most Texan" of places - the Stockyards Area in Ft. Worth. The winners were announced last week.

More than 50 Journalists evaluated a variety of vehicles during the two-day event, that encompassed both on-road and off-road drives. The Hybrid SUV, as defined by event organizers, are "SUV-like vehicles built on car platforms. They were never intended to take bear hunting in the Grand Tetons, but have a completely different use and target market."

The Volvo Cross Country, a highly-civilized, rugged and technologically sophisticated vehicle has been positioned with the ability to travel well in two worlds. An aggressive stance, high ground clearance and All-Wheel-Drive make it very suitable for rough route "adventures," while its responsive handling, road-holding prowess, superior comfort, safety engineering, fuel economy and environmentally friendly technology are more in-tune with its premium European wagon heritage.

"The reception our Volvo Cross Country has received in the marketplace indicates there is an obvious niche between the traditional wagon and the SUV. And while we wouldn't suggest that most drivers put their Cross Country through the grueling test of this event, its performance shows that for families and individuals with active lifestyles,...the Cross Country is up to the task," said Volvo Cars of North America CEO and President Dan Werbin. "We are very pleased to be honored by those whose business it is to know cars and assess their performance."

Complementing its product line up, Volvo will soon unveil the company's first-ever Sports Utility Vehicle, the XC90, next month at the North American International Auto Show, in Detroit.
