Vote for Five People Already Making a Difference in Your State at www.volvoforlifeawards.com
IRVINE, Calif., (November 2, 2006) — Your vote counts. And don’t you know it? Bombarded with campaign messaging everywhere you turn, from your neighbor’s yard signs to your precious evening primetime TV viewing, there’s no escape from the politicians, pundits and mudslinging. So, here’s a refreshing idea. If you’re looking to cast your vote for someone who really makes a difference, check out 250 deserving, apolitical hometown heroes – five from your state – at www.volvoforlifeawards.com. And vote.
Five incredible people from every state in the country are being nationally recognized for the amazing work they do in their communities in the 5th Anniversary Volvo for life Awards. All have been selected as semi-finalists in an annual search for, and celebration of, local heroes. Now, for the first time, Volvo is inviting America itself to serve as one of the Volvo for life Awards judges. From today through February 4, 2007, the American public can visit the Web site and vote for their favorite heroes online.
“These are strong, fearless people mobilizing resources and communities and often achieving what you only wish your political candidate would achieve,” says Sören Johansson, Volvo Cars of North America. “They have dedicated their lives to making a difference, from changing educational and environmental policies and creating employment opportunities to caring for the sick and the homeless and inspiring the forgotten youth across the country. Volvo is very proud to give back to these heroes and their communities.”
Visit www.volvoforlifeawards.com and learn more about what these amazing hometown heroes are doing to make your state a better place now and in the future. Most importantly, support your local heroes with your vote and help bring more funding to your community. Volvo is giving a total of nearly $1 million in financial contributions – three winners will receive $50,000 for their cause, six remaining finalists win $25,000 and one Grand Prize winner will get a new Volvo for the rest of his or her life.
About the Volvo for life Awards
Once the public vote concludes, the top three vote getters in the categories of Safety, Quality of Life and Environment will be named finalists. Then, a panel of distinguished judges – including Hank Aaron, Sen. Bill Bradley, Caroline Kennedy, Maya Lin, Paul Newman, Dr. Sally Ride, Val Kilmer, Eunice Kennedy Shriver and previous Volvo for life Awards top winners – will select winners in each category.
On April 4, 2007, Volvo will fly the winning heroes to New York, where Volvo and members of the celebrity-judging panel will honor them at the 5th Annual Volvo for life Awards Ceremony. At the climax of the ceremony, Volvo will reveal which of the three top heroes is also the Grand Award winner of a Volvo vehicle every three years for the rest of his or her life.
Voting is open now through Feb. 4, 2007.
