The 1970s - Volvo Car Corporation celebrates its 50th anniversary. What better way to celebrate than to have all-time record sales through the decade. Production plants were being built, new models were emerging, and Volvo safety technology reinforced its safety leadership. Three-point safety belts in the rear, rear-facing children seats, childproof locks, and a collapsible steering column were just some of the new safety features exclusive to Volvo. As if Volvo was not advanced enough in the area of safety, the Volvo Experimental Safety Car (VESC) was created in 1972. Volvo was now tapping into the future, as well as looking at improved safety features.
