1960s Overview

 

The 1960s - The decade of advanced safety features and a new sports car, the Volvo P1800. Engines were being built with more power and cars were getting safer by the minute. The US was the largest export market for Volvo, by far. Volvo, being fourth on the list of imported cars in the US. Safety features included: padded dashboards (1960), energy-absorbent crumple zones at the front and rear (1966), safety belts in rear (1967), and three-point, inertia-reel safety belts in the front (1969). Once again, Volvo was leading the automotive industry in safety protection.
