Volvo Car USA Celebrates the Behind-the-Scenes Talent During The Oscars®

MAHWAH, NJ (March 14, 2023) In recognition of Entertainment’s biggest night for movies and films, Volvo Car USA built upon its near century-long legacy in helping keep people safe by paying tribute to behind-the-scenes Hollywood professionals who do the same in a new 60-second custom creative, developed and produced in collaboration with Disney CreativeWorks.

Volvo Car USA celebrated the industry’s unsung heroes as a US market extension of its global ‘For Life’ brand campaign during the 95th Oscars® telecast on ABC this March. The Volvo Cars ‘For Life’ campaign explores the heights humans can reach—personally, creatively and through other forms of achievement when they feel safe. Because when you feel safe, you can be truly free.

This special one-minute Oscars® spot celebrates the on-set crews working to make production and creativity in the movies possible through their shared commitment to safety. In lieu of hiring actors for the film, Volvo Car USA chose to spotlight five talented professionals who were essential in creating the films we know and love, including stunt performers, a best boy grip and a lighting technician.

“We are proud to honor this group of talented professionals who share our passion to help keep people safe,” said Janique Helson, Head of Brand Marketing at Volvo Car USA. “Each one of these individuals plays an integral role in creating safe spaces on set that enable the incredible achievements like those that were celebrated during this year’s Oscars® ceremony.”

To further align with creating movie magic, the 60-second commercial was shot at Walt Disney Studios’ Golden Oak Ranch in Los Angeles, California. The spot was directed by Mikael Tyrsen and features cinematography from renowned director of photography Jeff Cronenweth.

“Like all of the talented filmmakers, producers and actors that made the Oscars® an unforgettable evening of storytelling and creativity, Volvo Cars paid tribute to all of the people who bring Hollywood productions to life by highlighting the human element of their stories with custom creative in collaboration with Disney CreativeWorks,” said Wendell Scott, Senior Vice President, Disney Advertising Sales. “At Disney Advertising, we are committed to pushing the boundaries of what’s possible – whether we’re innovating through formats, rethinking the notion of a commercial spot, or featuring the ingenuity of individuals both on – and off – the big screen.”

Also featured in the Oscars® spot is Volvo Cars’ newest flagship fully electric SUV, the Volvo EX90. Representative of a new era for safety for the company, the Volvo EX90 is a versatile and stylish seven-seater vehicle with the highest level of standard safety features of any Volvo car to date.
