Volvo motivates virtual TCS New York City Marathon runners with unique audio experience

ROCKLEIGH, N.J. (October 16, 2020) For everyone’s safety the 2020 TCS New York City Marathon has gone virtual, but that doesn’t mean runners have to miss out on the visceral experience of participating in the world’s largest marathon.

 

With 25,000 runners expected to register for the race, Volvo Car USA, in partnership with Spotify and Heard City, have created the Run NY Playlist, a one-of-a-kind audio experience that gives runners a free and safe way to immerse themselves in the unmistakable, and often unheard, sounds of New York City.

 

Available today on Spotify, the audio experience features real audio from various New York City neighborhoods along the TCS New York City Marathon route that runs from Staten Island to Central Park.

 

The playlist is hosted by Olympian and winner of the 2009 TCS New York City Marathon and the 2014 Boston Marathon, Meb Keflezighi. Throughout the audio experience, Meb shares personal stories from past marathons to create a compelling storytelling experience alongside music from a variety of top- and emerging artists.

 

Along the journey, listeners will also hear familiar sounds from throughout the city, including the hustle and bustle of local streets, music from talented street performers and of course the iconic NYC Marathon crowd cheering them on.

 

As the official vehicle sponsor of the TCS New York City Marathon, Volvo Car USA is encouraging participants to join New York Road Runners’ largest virtual marathon to-date for the chance to win the Volvo car of their dreams, while also providing opportunities for runners to celebrate the completion of their 26.2 mile journey. These include:

 

  • Run for Volvo Cars Sweepstakes: Registered runners can enter for a chance to win the Volvo car of their dreams. Here are the steps to enter:
    • Register to run the virtual marathon at nyrr.org.
    • Visit www.RunforVolvoCars.com and design a new 2021 Volvo.
    • Submit configuration code as an entry between Sept. 1 and Nov. 30, 2020.
    • One winner will be randomly selected to win a car similar to the one they designed.

  • Volvo Affinity PIN: Runners who complete any race on the New York Road Runners Volvo Virtual Racing platform, including the virtual TCS New York City Marathon, can receive a PIN redeemable for a $1000 purchase bonus or $500 lease bonus toward a new Volvo. Additional details here.
  • TCS New York City Marathon Virtual Finish Line Selfie: Runners can visit Volvo Cars Running Club to celebrate their race time with a selfie in front of a virtual Volvo XC90 Pace Car.
  • TCS New York City Marathon Pace Car Photo: Runners can also visit Volvo Cars Manhattan, as well as other Tri-State Volvo retailers, through November 15 to take a photo with the TCS New York City Marathon Pace Car and have their marathon time displayed on the car. While the in-person gathering of the 2020 TCS New York City Marathon has been cancelled this year, the virtual marathon offers a chance for runners around the world to participate in this popular race. Volvo, a partner of New York Road Runners, is also activating the virtual marathon in other markets around the globe.

 

With more than 300 runners across Mexico already registered, TCS New York City Marathon Volvo XC90 Pace Cars will circulate near popular running parks and routes in Mexico City for the next few weeks, while another will be prominently displayed at the city’s airport. Past Mexican winners German Silva and Adriana Fernandez will serve as Brand Ambassadors.

 

The pace car will also be on display at local Volvo retailers, both in Mexico and Brazil.
