Volvo will put one lucky 2020 Virtual TCS NYC Marathon runner in their dream car

ROCKLEIGH, N.J. (September 9, 2020) As this year’s TCS New York City Marathon goes virtual, Volvo Car USA has announced Run for Volvo Cars Sweepstakes, where runners can enter to win the Volvo car of their dreams.

Due to coronavirus-related health and safety concerns, New York Road Runners (NYRR) and the Mayor’s Office of the City of New York have cancelled the in-person gathering of the TCS New York City Marathon in 2020. Instead, the event will be held virtually, giving passionate runners from around the globe the opportunity to run their 26.2 miles anytime, anywhere between October 17 and November 1. As a bonus, Volvo Cars will give each participant a chance to win a new car.

The sweepstake is simple to enter and anyone who chooses to participate in the Virtual TCS New York City Marathon is eligible for a chance to win. Here are the steps to enter:

  • Register for the virtual marathon at nyrr.org.
  • Visit www.RunforVolvoCars.com and design a new 2021 Volvo including color and trim.
  • Submit a unique configuration code as an entry between Sept. 1 and Nov. 30, 2020.
  • One winner will be randomly selected to win a car like the one they designed.

Official rules can be found at RunforVolvoCars.com.

As the Official Vehicle of the TCS New York City Marathon, Volvo and NYRR are working together to help protect the health and safety of all participants by connecting the running community virtually. Runners are encouraged to run the race at their convenience and the location of their choice from October 17 to November 1 as part of NYRR Volvo Virtual Racing Powered by Strava. This year, runners taking on the virtual marathon will have another motivator – the chance to win a new Volvo car.

“Safety is at the core of everything we do at Volvo. As we find ourselves in a time where health and safety are at the forefront of our thoughts, it’s critical we lend our support to ensure a safe marathon experience for all,” said Rick Byrant, Sales Operations, Volvo Car Americas Region. “With this program, we hope to provide a safe escape and added incentive for this passionate community of runners.”

Volvo Cars has long focused on safety as its core value, reflected by decades of innovation in vehicle technology. This includes several “world-first” inventions, including the three-point safety belt in 1959 – credited with saving more than one million lives. Volvo released its patent on this life-saving invention in the name of safety, and to this day it remains as the most important safety feature in today’s cars.
