Southern California Volvo retailers donate nearly $50,000 to feed babies in need amidst COVID-19 and wildfires

  • $46,200 donation represents a portion of Volvo Car USA’s summer sales in California
  • Funds used to purchase more than 2,200 containers of baby formula
  • Los Angeles-based nonprofit Baby2Baby to distribute to families in need

(IRVINE, CA) September 3, 2020: Southern California Volvo retailers have combined forces to buy nearly $50,000 worth of baby formula for children and families impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic and wildfires burning across the state.

The 13 retailers that comprise the Southern California Volvo Dealer Association (SCVDA) set aside a portion of summer sales revenue for Baby2Baby (www.baby2baby.org), a Los Angeles-based, national non-profit organization that provides diapers, clothing and other basic necessities to children up to 12 years old living in poverty.

The initiative generated enough to purchase 2,230 42-ounce containers of powdered baby formula that were recently delivered to the nonprofit’s Culver City headquarters for distribution to children in need.

Volvo Cars has been an official partner of Baby2Baby since 2015, helping the organization distribute more than 100 million items to children in need.

During the COVID-19 pandemic alone Baby2Baby has distributed 30 million essential items like diapers, formula, soap, shampoo, hand sanitizer, masks and more -- five times more than any previous year in the organization’s history.

“As we’ve seen our friends and neighbors struggle with the impact of COVID-19, our 13 retailers knew we needed to come together to help those who need it most,” said Ram Tehrani, President, Southern California Volvo Dealer Association and General Manager, Culver City Volvo. “Being part of the local community is core to Volvo values, so we’re proud to work with our partners at Baby2Baby to make a real difference for families and children across the state.”

“Being part of a community is very much a Volvo value,” said Mike Cottone, Vice President Western Region for Volvo Car USA. “Our Southern California Volvo Dealer Association partners took the initiative to support those who need it most during the COVID-19 pandemic, and it resulted in their best sales month in over 10 years. This was the perfect outcome.”

“Volvo has been a committed Baby2Baby partner for the last five years," said Baby2Baby Co-Presidents Norah Weinstein and Kelly Sawyer Patricof. "We're so grateful for their incredible donation of formula for the families we serve who have been struggling to afford the most basic necessities for their children due to the pandemic. When we can provide formula and other essentials, families can focus their extremely limited funds on food and shelter."
