Volvo Cars North America Signs Multi-Year Deal With British Academy Of Film And Television Arts, Los Angeles (BAFTA/LA)

Los Angeles, CA, (March 9, 2005 ) Volvo Cars North America, LLC (VCNA) announced its multi-year agreement with the British Academy of Film and Television Arts, Los Angeles (BAFTA/LA). The commitment includes VCNA sponsorship of all events and programs presented through March 2007 by BAFTA/LA.

The partnership is effective immediately, and aligns VCNA with the prestigious British Academy’s Los Angeles subsidiary. The prolific LA organization has effectively intensified its community outreach and enhanced its national profile in recent years, under the leadership its board chairman, Gary Dartnall.

For its part, VCNA will contribute funding for BAFTA/LA programs and events, as well as donate automobiles for BAFTA/LA’s diverse fundraising efforts. As such, Volvo Cars of North America becomes BAFTA/LA’s official automotive partner and a presenting or co-presenting sponsor of all events, including the Britannia Awards.

"Volvo is delighted to partner with BAFTA/LA, supporting the work of the film and television community, here in Los Angeles at the heart of the world's entertainment industry," said Roger Ormisher, VCNA, Vice President - Public Affairs. "Volvo has made a conscientious effort to reinforce the safety, design, and performance of our vehicles through positive images in motion pictures and television. We're seeing that Volvos are rapidly becoming, not only prime choices for on-set vehicles, but also the car of choice for many Hollywood directors, producers and actors."

Affirms Dartnall: “This new association with Volvo is very exciting and very rewarding as it allows us to work toward expanding our ambitious programs and activities, as well as our new community outreach plans for the future. The Volvo brand has both a tradition and the respect in the automotive industry that is hard to match, and we’re proud to be associated with our new partners.”

In addition to its annual Britannia Awards, that honors the best and brightest in the entertainment community, BAFTA/LA presents and hosts a number of industry events that consistently draw Los Angeles and national media, industry leaders and celebrities. Included among these are its annual Tea Parties honoring BAFTA and Golden Globe nominees on the eve of the Golden Globes Awards and, in association with the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, one honoring Emmy nominees on the eve of that awards show.

BAFTA/LA’s various other activities and programs include its popular series of pre-release film screenings featuring talent Question & Answer sessions; its fund-raising for scholarships that benefit British students studying film and television in Los Angeles; and its ongoing effort to chronicle the wit and wisdom of filmdom’s greatest practitioners by way of its Heritage Archive Video Interviews, among many others. Further, BAFTA/LA’s community outreach includes hosting numerous educational events for various inner-city school-children.
