Web site to serve as the hub for introduction of Volvo XC90 V8 in a Super Bowl XXXIX Ad

Los Angeles (Jan. 5, 2005) – Volvo Cars of North America (VCNA) today launched the Web site to support its first-ever Super Bowl advertising initiative, which will officially introduce the Volvo XC90 V8. will serve as the hub for all activities related to Volvo’s historic ad, aimed at raising awareness for the first-ever V8-powered Volvo, to air during Super Bowl XXXIX on Feb. 6, 2005.


Volvo Marks Debut with Adventure Travel Contest

To celebrate the launch of, Volvo will offer visitors an opportunity to win an extreme adventure travel package to occur by air, underwater or over the sea.


Through Jan. 26, visitors to the site will have the opportunity to select what they consider to be the most powerful trip:

  • Participating in an astronaut-trained, zero-gravity jet flight
  • Riding an ice-breaker cruise ship through the Antarctic, or
  • Traveling by submarine off the coast of the Grand Caymans


After registering their vote, they’ll be entered into a contest to win a trip for two to the location they select.


“With a 311 horsepower engine, the Volvo XC90 V8 is by far the most powerful Volvo. It has the power to take drivers places they’ve never been before,” said Vic Doolan, president and chief executive officer of VCNA. “We wanted to mark the launch of with an opportunity to take visitors places they’ve never experienced in a similarly powerful mode of transportation.”


Leading up to the Super Bowl and continuing after the game, will provide new information on the Volvo XC90 V8 and other elements related to the company’s Super Bowl initiative.


Volvo is producing the campaign with its advertising agency of record, Euro RSCG Worldwide.
