Sustainability is as Serious as Vehicle Safety

Volvo Cars takes sustainability as seriously as safety. This is the message of a new public information campaign by Volvo Car USA that will run through the beginning of November. It will be available in both print and digital formats in America’s leading news media.

“It has never been about ratings or stars, and it’s not about mandated standards. Volvo Cars advocates for year over year increases in fuel efficiency standards because we answer to a higher authority: our users.” said Håkan Samuelsson, President and CEO of Volvo Car Group.

The campaign launches with the new S60 sedan, the first Volvo to be built in the United States and the first Volvo without a diesel engine variant. Available with eco-friendly Drive-e engines, the S60 is available as a plug-in hybrid boasting 400 horsepower.

Volvo Cars has not waited for regulators to set stronger requirements in the name of sustainability. Volvo was the first established carmaker to commit to the electrification of all new car lines from 2019. Earlier this year, Volvo was the first and only auto brand to endorse the G7 Ocean Plastics Charter with an aim for at least 25% recycled plastics in every new car from 2025.

In official comments last Friday to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), Volvo Cars supports year over year increases in fuel economy standards and reduction in carbon emissions.
