All-new Volvo S40 Leads the Way Establishing New Mark for Segment
Irvine, CA (September 1, 2004) – Volvo Cars of North America, LLC. (VCNA) reports its best August on record for the United States. With 12,616 units sold, Volvo maintains its trend of continuous growth ratcheting up 6.2 percent over the same period last year. Year-to-date, Volvo is 3.1 percent ahead of the record pace set in 2003.
"The brand is showing strength in a competitive marketplace with our new entries resonating with consumers," said Vic Doolan, VCNA President and CEO. The all-new Volvo S40 has really taken off producing the highest totals ever for Volvo in the segment. "We approached this segment by infusing safety and excitement with the customer in mind, and based on the response to our class leading all-new S40, we're hitting the mark," said Doolan.
The all-new S40 contributed 2,347 units to U.S. results, representing an increase of 105 percent for the segment. The Volvo V70, XC70, and S80 also saw significant increases to sales. And beginning this month, the '05 model S60, V70, and XC70 arrive to showrooms, available with more options and more horsepower.
NAFTA (United States, Puerto Rico, Canada, and Mexico) sales of 13,891 translated to an increase of 7.5 percent for August. Sales in Canada were up 16.1 percent. Sales in Mexico increased and impressive 56.5 percent.
