Volvo Dunes + Tunes Beach Tour 2004 Kicks Off

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Giant sand sculptures, live DJ and giveaways gets summer started with a party

Long Beach, CA (July 10, 2004) — The sun's out, the heat is on, and the music is pumping this weekend down at the Long Beach Belmont Pier. To celebrate the launch of the all-new 2005 V50 sportswagon, Volvo will kick-off a seven-city Dunes + Tunes beach tour that begins this weekend at the historic pier with a live DJ, awesome giveaways and massive, 20-foot-tall sand sculptures. The party starts at 9:30 am and will run full tilt until 4:30 pm both Saturday and Sunday.

If the bumping music doesn't get you to the good times, the giant sand castle will. Guiness World-record holders "Team Sandtastic" will sculpt an awe-inspiring sand castle that will tower more than 20 feet above the party. Using up to 200 tons of sand and environmentally friendly construction methods, four expert sculptors will build the Dunes + Tunes Castle beginning Wednesday morning and working hard through Friday. Everyone one is invited to come and watch as the castle slowly takes shape. Over Saturday and Sunday, beachgoers will have the rare opportunity to learn the skills of sand sculpture from these award-winning artists during special clinics that will be set up around the festivities.

The fun continues through both days as prizes and giveaways will be up for grabs. Everything from surfboards, sunscreen and headgear to custom made Burton snowboards will be offered. Partygoers will spin a specially designed prize wheel to see what they will be taking home.

Taking center stage will be a slew of new Volvo cars, including the guest of honor, the all-new 2005 V50 sportswagon. The V50 is the perfect active-lifestyle vehicle with its available T5 218-horsepower turbocharged 5-cylinder engine and its flexible, roomy interior. Designed for those who are "full of life" the V50 sets the standard with its class leading safety, dynamic driving characteristics and exciting styling. The all-new V50 carries a manufacturer's suggested retail price (MSRP) of $25,660 for the normally aspirated 2.4i, and $27,260 for the turbocharged T5.

Also on hand will be the new S40 sports sedan, the award-wining XC90 sport-utility vehicle and the eye-popping "Britto" V50 art car. Personalized by the brightly colored style of renowned Brazilian artist, Romero Britto, the "Britto" V50 was unveiled at this year's New York Auto Show and will no-doubt attract plenty of attention on the beach this weekend. Although no sales personnel will be on hand, throughout both days Volvo product representatives will be on hand to answer any questions about the incredible lineup of vehicles on display.
