SEBRING WEEKEND DRAWS CELEBRITY NOTICED:

Surprise Appearance by Team Volvo-At Speed Motorsports Crew Gets Attention

SEBRING, Fla. — It's not often the big-boys of ALMS race fame have to share the spotlight, but that's exactly what happened at fabled Sebring this weekend. Paddock visitors were treated to an appearance by the all-new At Speed Motorsports transporter and one of the 500hp S60R race cars now in development and headed into the SCCA's hot SpeedGT Series - where it and three other Volvo speedsters will dice it up with the best factory backed and private teams now competing in this popular class. That Volvo's lead driver, five-time Le Mans winner, Derek Bell was on hand to help broadcast the ALMS race for television added to the surprise as Bell and team owner/manager/driver Bob Miller drew lots of attention when the Volvo team car was unveiled. With testing and development now underway - and two other drivers signed for the season - all Volvo had to do was dust off the vibrant paint and stand back! The crowds and questions came and along with them loads of enthusiasm for Volvo's return to motorsports!

"I've been at this professionally for forty years and never get tired of seeing racing fans enjoy a discovery. No one expected to see the Volvo crew at Sebring - not the fans - and certainly not our presumptive competition. It was great fun to see a few of the SPEED GT challengers saunter past for a sideways glance at the Volvo. Good thing, too, as from now on all they're likely to see is a view from the rear!" laughed Bell.

The team anticipates its formal debut at Lime Rock where Volvo will unleash its first serious race effort since winning both British and European touring car championships. "Volvo has always managed to keep under the radar - letting consumers discover for themselves what great cars it makes. We followed that lead this weekend and let the competition and fans discover a new and very potent arrival on the SPEED GT scene. We were very pleased at the welcome and appreciated any concern we might have caused our worthy competitors...after all...this is racing and sometimes you set the pace in the paddock...not the starting grid," added team leader Miller.
