SECOND ANNUAL VOLVO FOR LIFE AWARDS

FACT SHEET

WHAT

The Volvo for Life Awards is the largest-ever annual national search and celebration of everyday heroes, with Volvo Cars of North America providing more than $1 million in awards and contributions.

Launching Sept. 16, 2003, the second annual Volvo for Life Awards calls for individuals nationwide to nominate a hometown hero they know at www.volvoforlifeawards.com. The initiative culminates with the April 7, 2004, Volvo for Life Awards Ceremony, held in New York at Times Square Studios Ltd.

WHY

The program was developed by Volvo Cars of North America to honor and celebrate ordinary people doing extraordinary things for their communities in the areas of safety, quality of life and the environment, and to inspire others to create positive change within their communities.

WEB

To submit a nomination or to view hero stories, visit www.volvoforlifeawards.com. A Spanish version of the site also can be accessed there.

JUDGES

Hank Aaron, Bill Bradley, Caroline Kennedy, Maya Lin, Paul Newman, Sally Ride, Eunice Kennedy Shriver and Robert Young (last year's Volvo for Life Awards' overall winner).

HEROES

Nominations for the Volvo for Life Awards are accepted through Jan. 16, 2004. In March, Volvo will select 100 semi-finalists who will receive a Certificate of Merit to honor their accomplishments. From those 100 semi-finalists, Volvo will select the top three finalists in three categories: safety, quality of life and environment. From these finalists, judges will name one winner for each of the three categories. The winners will each receive $50,000 to be donated to the charities of their choice. The remaining six finalists will each receive a $10,000 charitable donation.

CEREMONY

The three category winners will be flown to New York on April 7, 2004, to be honored at the Volvo for Life Awards Ceremony in Times Square Studios. The event will feature top music entertainment and a celebrity host, as well as documentaries profiling the heroes. The overall winner will be named and presented with a Volvo car every three years for the rest of his or her life.
