…european car magazine presents Grand Prix Award

Irvine, CA - (July 11, 2003) - European car Editor-in-Chief Greg Brown presented the 2003 Grand Prix award today at a Volvo Cars of North America (VCNA) Town Hall meeting. The Volvo S60 R was chosen by the magazine as the most significant new European car sold in America, and is featured in their August issue.

"The criterion for the award is simple: it must reach into the souls of automotive enthusiasts and stimulate the desire to drive for the pleasure of driving", said Greg Brown. "The S60 R was chosen for affordable, yet advanced technology, powerful engine and active suspension."

Contenders for the 2003 Grand Prix included the Mercedes-Benz E 500, Porsche Boxster S, BMW Z4, Saab 9-3, Jaguar XJR, Audi RS6, the New Beetle Convertible, and of course the S60 R. All eight cars were tested during a week of intensive road testing.

"It is great honor to have been chosen as the recipient of this award from such an impressive set of cars and to have Greg here with us today," said Vic Doolan, Volvo CEO. "This award really says that Volvos aren't just about safety, but about performance and excitement as well."

Previous winners of the award were the VW New Beetle, BMW M Coupe, Audi A4 and Mercedes-Benz C-Class.

VCNA, part of the Volvo Car Corporation of Gothenburg, Sweden, provides marketing, sales, parts, service, technology and training support to Volvo automobile retailers in the United States, Canada, Mexico and Puerto Rico.

In addition to the award-winning performance sedan – S60 R and sporty S60 sedan, the 2003/04 Volvo automobile line includes the award-winning XC90, the flagship S80 luxury sedan, versatile V70 wagon and rugged XC70 (Cross Country), the C70 convertible, and the compact S40 and V40 models.
