In Volvo's lineup of luxury sedans, the S60 fits neatly between the compact S40 and flagship S80. The S60 delivers all the Volvo virtues that make it an outstanding value in its segment - safety, performance, technology, luxury and style. For 2009, Volvo makes the S60 an even more compelling choice by endowing all three variants with an expanded roster of standard features.

The contents of the former Premium Package have been made standard on the S60 2.5T and 2.5T AWD. Thus both models are now equipped with standard sport leather seating surfaces, power glass sunroof, power front passenger's seat, genuine wood inlays, auto-dimming mirror with compass, rear shelf speakers and satellite radio prep. In addition, the Geartronic "Auto-Stick" function that enables the driver to shift manually when desired is now standard with the 5-speed automatic transmission.

For the top-line S60 T5, the features contained in the previous Advanced Package are now standard. This gives the T5 premium Inscription leather on seats and door panels, a 325-watt premium sound system with Dolby® ProLogic II® Surround, 6-disc CD changer and 13 speakers, brushed aluminum door handles, rear park assist, active bi-Xenon gas discharge headlamps with washers, grocery and sunglass holders and Interior Air Quality System (IAQS).

Volvo has been a pioneer and leader in the turbocharging of family cars for more than a quarter of a century. All three S60 models are turbocharged. The S60 2.5T and 2.5T AWD are fitted with a 2.5-liter 5-cylinder double overhead cam 5-cylinder engine that puts out 208 horsepower. Those seeking a more sporting driving experience will find it in the S60 T5 with its 258 horsepower engine.

All-Wheel Drive with Instant TractionTM is standard on the S60 2.5T AWD. It mates with the turbocharged engine for positive, instantaneous torque and optimum launch performance. The computer controlled Haldex all-wheel-drive system instantly delivers up to 50 percent more torque to the rear axle only when needed, such as during takeoff.

In the Volvo tradition, the S60 benefits from a comprehensive array of safety features. All models are equipped with Dynamic Stability and Traction Control (DSTC) and a Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS). The list continues with standard Side Impact Protection System (SIPS) with side airbags and Inflatable Curtain (IC), Whiplash Protection Seating System (WHIPS), seat belts with pyrotechnic pretensioners in all seating positions, dual-stage front airbags (SRS), Volvo's safety cage construction and the ISO-FIX attachment for rearward-facing child safety seats.
