As Volvo's entry-level offerings, the S40 and V40 represent a tremendous value without compromising safety or performance. For 2003, both the S40 and V40 receive a host of visual and performance improvements along with several new additions to the optional Premium and Sport Packages.

Horsepower increase to170 (10-bhp increase from 2002)
Body-color side moldings and bumpers
Black "egg-crate" grille
Three-spoke leather-wrapped steering wheel
Four-dial instrument cluster
Standard in-dash single disc CD player
Sport Package additions:

Front spoiler

Blackout headlamp surrounds

"Galactica" 16-inch alloy wheels

Rear deck spoiler (S40 only)

Rear roof spoiler (V40 only)

Premium Package additions:

Leather-wrapped hand brake handle

Leather-wrapped gearshift lever
