Few car companies can claim the same pedigree as Volvo Cars when it comes to the design and manufacture of family wagons. That is why the news that Volvo will reveal its new V90 wagon on February 18 in Stockholm is so widely-anticipated and significant.
At the time of its launch, there was scarcely a car in existence that was more practical than the model Volvo unveiled exactly 50 years ago, in summer 1953. Half a century and millions of estate cars later, the concept of practicality still remains the talking point of these Volvo cars.
"A new Volvo Estate car. An exclusive estate car, designed for European conditions enters the Swedish market. It will be shown for the first time at the Stockholm Motor Show. It is Volvo's much longed for Amazon estate."
This model can be described as an estate based on the 121/122S (Amazon). It made its debut at the Stockholm Motor Show in February 1962. This extension of the model range gave Volvo the most extensive programme in one and the same car family than ever before.
