Four in a row for Volvo at the BusinessCar Techies!
For the fourth consecutive year, Volvo has been successful at the annual BusinessCar Fleet Technology Awards - affectionately known as The Techies. This year the company won the "Best Car Safety System" category with the revolutionary Volvo pedestrian airbag, described by BusinessCar as "a genuine world first." The Technology Award comes on top of the just announced five star Euro NCAP crash test rating for the V40, the highest recorded score of any car ever tested.
The Volvo pedestrian airbag is standard equipment on the current V40 range and is designed to inflate when sensors detect a pedestrian has made contact with the front of the vehicle above a preset speed. The bonnet lifts at the windscreen to provide improved pedestrian protection for the head and body, while the airbag inflates to cover the A-pillars, and the bottom third of the windscreen.
The Technology Awards were recently announced on the BusinessCar website and in a special ‘Techies' edition of BusinessCar magazine. Speaking about Volvo's success, Paul Barker, editor of BusinessCar said: "Volvo's new pedestrian airbag is revolutionary and just when you think the company can't come up with anything else, it proves us wrong. Volvo continues to lead the way in car crash test safety."
The pedestrian airbag system is part of Volvo's long term goal that no-one should be killed or seriously injured in a new Volvo car by the year 2020.
