VOLVO CAR UK BRAVES THE WINTER WITH RECORD XC90 SALES, WINTER TYRES AND FREE SAFETY INSPECTION

  • XC90 on-track for record sales in its eighth year of production
  • The XC90 becomes Volvo's best selling model in 2010 with over 6,600 units sold this year
  • Volvo's Winter Tyre Programme passes 1000 unit sales
  • Free Safety Inspection to ensure any Volvo is equipped to deal with the elements

The Volvo XC90 looks set for a potential record breaking sales year in its eighth year of production.  With sales currently standing at 6,686 units to the end of November, 2010 is turning out to be another strong year for the large SUV as it bucks the trend and outsells its BMW, Audi, Mercedes Benz, VW and Lexus competitors.

The XC90 has always been a sales success for Volvo, with its seven seat interior, class-leading safety and strong residual values.  It has been at the top on many buyers lists since its launch and with the recent announcement of the new D5 engine with 200PS, available to order now and priced from £34,040 on the road for the Active to £43,275 on the road for the Executive, sales are set to continue in the same positive manner.  The XC90 is available with five different trim levels and are fitted with all-wheel-drive and seven seats as standard.

Winter Tyre Programme

Along with the XC90 helping drivers deal with the recent snow and icy conditions, Volvo's Winter Tyre Programme goes from strength to strength with sales now exceeding over 1000 tyres since its launch in October 2010.

Winter tyres are designed to perform in cold weather, particularly temperatures below 7oC when standard tyres start to reduce in performance and prolong braking distances.

Lee Berrell, Aftersales Manager for Volvo Car UK, said: "Interest in the Volvo winter tyres has far exceeded our expectations, with Scotland, the North of England and London seeing the greatest number of inquires and sales.  While some are struggling with supply, we pre-ordered a large number of tyres to ensure all Volvo customers can be catered for, even into the New Year."

Volvo offers alloy wheel and tyres packages with either Pirelli or Continental tyres, priced from £949+VAT and £999+VAT respectively.  Customers can also choose to store their summer wheels and tyres at home during winter or with Volvo for a small additional cost at Volvo's Tyre Hotel.

Free Safety Inspection

Having cars which are able to tackle the harsh weather and offering a winter tyre programme, Volvo are also helping customers ensure that they are fully prepared for the cold climate and ready to deal with the elements.

Volvo have introduced a free-of-charge Mid Service Safety Inspection.  The inspection entails a 25 point check, ranging from fluid checks to security checks on major and integral parts of the vehicle to give piece of mind to any Volvo driver. More information on the check is available at www.volvocars.co.uk/winter.
