At Volvo Cars, we pride ourselves on being a brand delivering premium, safe and sustainable cars to our customers. This week, it seems we can add ‘cool’ to that list, too. We are, according to Jeremy Clarkson’s latest The Sunday Times Magazine column, “the coolest car brand of them all”. With that added feather in our cap, we are delighted to be attending SMMT Test Day on Tuesday 26th April with some of our latest (and coolest) cars. This year we will be demonstrating our Recharge range of plug-in vehicles, both fully electric and petrol-electric hybrid.
Last month, we launched the sleek and stylish C40, the first model in our history designed to be pure-electric only, and our first ever crossover vehicle. We will have two examples of the twin-motor, all-wheel-drive Recharge Twin version with us for you to test. This will be the first opportunity for many of you to get behind the wheel.
Excitingly, we are also presenting the UK dynamic debut of the XC40 Recharge, a single-motor, front-wheel-drive variant of our pure-electric compact SUV. It follows the successful XC40 Recharge Twin that was launched last year. This is the first time UK media will have the chance to drive this lighter, more affordable electric XC40.
If that wasn’t enough, Test Day will also offer the first opportunity to sample our recently updated plug-in hybrid models. These now offer a larger 18.8kWh battery and more powerful 145hp electric motor. In the case of our V90 Recharge Plug-in Hybrid T6, the all-electric range is now increased to up to 53 miles, while CO2 emissions have dropped as low as 19g/km.

In addition, we will have a special appearance from a car made famous by Roger Moore… yes, our beautiful 1962 P1800 will be on static display for you to all drool over – assuming your lateral-flow test is negative, of course!
Like previous years, we love to bring a Swedish flavour to Test Day, so invite you to join us for Fika throughout the day. A variety of sweet treats, tea, coffee and soft drinks will be available if you fancy a sit down and a chat with the team.
