VOLVO - THE IDEAL TOWING COMPANION - AT THE NATIONAL BOAT CARAVAN AND OUTDOOR SHOW 2008

There are many reasons to visit the Volvo stand at this year's National Boat, Caravan and Outdoor Show1 which takes place between 19-24 February at Birmingham's NEC.  Show goers can view Volvo's latest products, seek towing advice from Volvo's very own expert and also have the chance to win a fantastic action-packed family holiday worth £4,000.

Volvo is showcasing a selection of ideal towing cars on stand 1114 in Hall 1; from the capable all new Volvo XC70 all wheel drive estate and versatile V70 and V50 estate models, to the award winning XC90 and sporty new C30 SportsCoupe.

A Volvo expert will be on hand every day to answer any questions, give advice and provide practical towing information to visitors.  Also, to help those less experienced or new to towing, a handy free pocket guide with all the basic towing information for each model and engine derivative will be available on the stand.2

All visitors to the Volvo stand also have the chance to win a fantastic Neilson Beachplus Club active sports holiday for a family of four worth £4,000 by simply answering a number of safety questions about the Volvo range. The winner will be heading to the beautiful island of Lesvos in Greece's northern Aegean Sea, where they can relax by the pool or take part in activities such as waterskiing, sailing, windsurfing, tennis and mountain biking2.

During the 14 years Volvo has exhibited at the show the Volvo range has become increasingly stylish, yet still practical and versatile. Volvo has a long commitment to designing cars suitable for outdoor hobbies, such as sailing and caravanning, and even uses its own bespoke range of trailers and caravans to perform rigorous towing tests in Sweden and in the desert heat of Arizona, USA for all its new models.

Volvo has also been making waves in the sailing industry for a number of years based on its excellent towing credentials. Shirley Robertson, double Olympic gold medallist and Team Volvo for life member comments; "I've been using my XC90 to tow my Yngling boat all over Europe in the past year; from England to Portugal, Holland and back again - not only does it pull the 1 tonne boat weight but has the space to fit my team's sailing kit in too. It's great to have the reliability and towing power without losing the performance of the car, but the best thing is the comfort factor - even after a long trip I still feel human".

These high standards of towing performance have also been recognised by industry experts and Volvo has enjoyed success at the Caravan Club Towcar of the Year competitions; last year saw the Volvo V50 D5 Sport top the opposition in the £25,001 to £33,000 price class and announced overall Towcar of the year winner. The year before the 185PS variant of the Volvo D5 turbodiesel engine powered the Volvo XC70 AWD and V70 AWD to victory in no less than three classes.

More recently the Volvo V70 D5 SE beat off rivals to become the 1425kg-1574kg Class Winner at the first ever Towcar Awards, where experts at Practical Caravan, What Car? and The Camping & Caravanning Club combined forces for the first time.
