As a part of the autonomous driving project Drive Me, Volvo Car is presenting a unique, complete system solution that makes it possible to integrate self-driving cars in real traffic – with ordinary people in the driver’s seat. Twelve ultrasonic sensors around the car are used to identify objects close to the vehicle and support autonomous drive in low speeds. A typical example of when this technology is useful is to detect unexpected situations, such as pedestrians, or hazards on the road close to the car.
