New Volvo XC60 Blog Gives Consumers Access to a Longtime Volvo Insider, Added Perspective on The Safest Volvo Ever Made

IRVINE, Calif, Haters of fender benders and lovers of great automotive safety and design features will want to bookmark Volvo's new XC60 blog, http://www.thecarthatstopsitself.com/, that launched earlier this month.

Authored by the insightful and often times brutally honest Dan Johnston, a long time public affairs manager with Volvo Cars of North America, the site is designed to give consumers real time information about the XC60 from the voice of a true Volvo insider.

"Dan is one of those guys that calls it how it is and we wanted to put him out there for the public to hear from about the XC60," said Doug Speck, president and chief executive officer of Volvo Cars of North America. "He is someone that talks to our engineers and designers all day long and he hears from dozens of auto writers about their views on our cars. I think people will really enjoy his posts."

This blog will provide Volvo enthusiasts with access to the thoughts of Johnston as well as video highlights from the XC60 Experiential Tour, links to the XC60 YouTube channel and other resources for those interested in learning more about the safest Volvo ever made.

"My goal is to tell people things about the car that they may not think to ask a retailer and to share some of the many insights I get just walking around Volvo headquarters," said Johnston. "This is an amazing car and there is a lot to talk about - City Safety, great design and so much more."

The new Volvo XC60 is stepping boldly into what is currently the automotive world's fastest-growing segment-dressed in a thrilling blend of muscular XC capability and the sporty charisma of a coupe. The "Small Premium Utility" segment is growing quickly. Within the next few years, buyers will have at least 10 crossover models to choose from. By 2009, this segment is expected to expand by 75 percent to 443,000 units.

More About City Safety

City Safety is a unique system that can help the driver avoid or reduce the effects of the type of low-speed impacts that are common in city traffic. If the car is about to strike the vehicle in front and the driver does not react, the car automatically applies the brakes. Volvo is the first in the world to offer the City Safety feature as standard. City Safety is active up to 18 mph. According to surveys, more than 75 percent of all accidents occur in speeds below 18 mph. Volvo is involved in a dialogue with the insurance companies regarding lower insurance premiums for cars equipped with City Safety.
