Volvo Car Corporation gives 180 employees notice of redundancies in Sweden

Volvo Car Corporation has today given 180 white collar employees in Gothenburg, Sweden notice of redundancies. Negotiations have started with the Swedish unions and are expected to be concluded before the end of this year.

“It is necessary to lower our labor cost to secure the long-term competitiveness of the company. We must be more efficient and by that securing future jobs”, says Olle Axelson, Senior Vice President, Public Affairs, Volvo Car Corporation.
“We are facing a more fierce competition in our key markets and our costs are negatively affected”, continues Mr. Axelson.

As previously announced Volvo Car Corporation has launched a cost reduction program to safeguard the continued success of the company. The global organization review concluded a supernumerary of a total of 1,400 persons of which 1,050 (600 blue collars and 450 white collars) are salaried employees and 200 consultants and 150 hired services. The majority of the supernumerary salaried employees will be leaving the company by retirement and pre- retirement's packages. But a total of 180 white collar employees in Sweden will be given notice of redundancies.
