Volvo Car Group announces May retail sales:

Sales growth in the top three markets

Volvo Car Group (Volvo Cars) reports global retail sales of 35,660 cars for the month of May. For the first five months of 2013 retail sales were down 6.2 per cent. All the top three markets - USA, Sweden and China - gained sales during May versus last year.

The United States was Volvo Cars' number one market in May with 6,318 retail sold cars, an increase of 1.3 per cent. Retail sales in Sweden grew by 1.8 per cent to 4,664 cars.

The strong growth in China continued in May with an increase of 24.4 per cent to 4,415 cars, supported by Volvo's 60-series cars as well as the V40 model.

Demand for the Volvo V40 is supporting increased market shares in several European markets, although the total sales performance in this region still suffers from generally weak consumer demand.
