Maria Hemberg grew up in Växjö. After graduating from the University of Lund (Master in Law) Maria Hemberg began her career as a trainee in 1988 at the law firm Mannheimer Setterlöf. After a short period at the local District Court, Maria in 1990 returned to the law firm and stayed there until 2000, with interruptions for short term assignments at Slaughter & May and SCA Hygiene Products as well as two maternity leaves. During this period Maria was practicing in corporate law, M&A, real estate and bankruptcy as well as labour law.
In 2000 Maria joined SKF where she focused on M&A and JVs, contract law as well as corporate governance matters. Maria's role as legal counsel at SKF Headquarters was a global role and Maria was accordingly engaged in legal matters in various countries, including but not limited to China, US, Korea and Brazil. Between 2000 abd 2006 Maria was head of the Trademark department. From 2006, Maria was also a member of the Automotive Divisions management team. In 2012 she joined Volvo Cars.
