Volvo Car Group announces April retail sales: global sales growth of 11.3 per cent
Volvo Cars continued to grow sales globally in April and posted an 11.3 per cent increase in retail sales for the month, selling 42,434 cars. Sales of the new Volvo XC90 were the main growth driver globally, while the consistently popular XC60 was the best-selling model overall. Global growth for the first four months was 11.8 per cent.
The United States reported a sales increase of 33.1 per cent versus the same month last year. Retail sales amounted to 6,169 cars. The new Volvo XC90 was the key growth driver and the best-selling Volvo model in the US.
Sales in Europe as a whole were up by 12.3 per cent with solid growth across the region. Sweden was Volvo Cars’ biggest market for the month with 6,635 sold cars, up 10.3 per cent versus April last year. Other strong performing markets included Germany, France, the UK and the Netherlands. The Volvo XC60 was the best-selling model in Europe while the new XC90 represented most of the growth for the month.
China was Volvo’s second biggest market in April, reporting retail sales of 6,280 cars. The best-selling cars were the locally produced Volvo XC60 and S60L models.

The Volvo XC60 was the best-selling model in April with 11,937 sold cars (2015: 13,187), followed by the Volvo XC90 at 8,102 cars (new). For the 2015 financial year, Volvo Car Group recorded an operating profit of 6,620 MSEK (2,128 MSEK in 2014). Revenue over the period amounted to 164,043 MSEK (137,590 MSEK). In 2015, global sales reached a record 503,127 cars, an increase of 8 per cent versus 2014. The record sales and operating profit cleared the way for Volvo Car Group to continue investing in its global transformation plan.
