Volvo Car Group announces June retail sales

Volvo Cars reports strong growth in Europe, first XC90 cars delivered to Chinese customers

  • Global retail sales up 7.9 per cent in June
  • European growth 18.7 per cent on strong XC60 sales
  • Volvo XC90 reaches first customers in China

Volvo Cars posted a 7.9 per cent increase in retail sales for the month of June, selling 46,520 cars globally. Europe was the growth driver with an 18.7 per cent increase, including Sweden. The all-new Volvo XC90 is a global success story with 45,000 orders already in the books, while the first cars reached customers in China this month.

Retail sales in Europe including Sweden grew on continued strong demand for the Volvo XC60 and several markets reported significant sales increases, with France, Belgium and Spain in the lead. Volvo Cars also strengthened its leadership on the Swedish market with more than 20 per cent market share in June.

The US market reported flat sales versus the same month last year with the XC60 being the best-selling Volvo model. China was Volvo Cars largest market in June where the first XC90 cars now have been delivered to customers. The locally produced XC60 and S60L models are the most sold Volvo models in China.

The new Volvo XC90

“Our strong performance in Europe is another sign of an attractive product offer with the Volvo XC60 as the growth driver”, said Alain Visser, Senior Vice President Marketing, Sales and Customer Service at Volvo Cars. “I am also pleased that our XC90 customers are now starting to have their cars delivered. With volumes ramping up, we anticipate continued growth in the second half of this year”.
