STCC silver to Volvo's Robert Dahlgren in a S60

STCC silver to Volvo's Robert Dahlgren in a S60

The final of the STCC championship 2007 was decided in a very dramatic fashion on the last day of September. Robert Dahlgren, who has driven a Volvo S60 powered by environmental fuel, won the silver medal.

"Of course I would have liked to drive for it, but at the same time, it feels fantastic to have won silver. I am completely satisfied," says Robert Dahlgren.

Heavy rain made conditions tricky in the final, and the fight for the silver medal was quickly settled in the first curve. Volvo Original Racing's Robert Dahlgren drove off the track, but so did his main rival for the silver medal, Richard Göransson - and the outcome was settled. Silver to Robert Dahlgren, Volvo and Polestar Racing.

Robert Dahlgren started in second position and as he braked into the first curve, he was bumped from behind. This led to a chain reaction and several cars went off the track. Unfortunately, neither Robert Dahlgren nor Richard Göransson could continue with the race. Soon after, the leader, Jan Nilsson, also skidded off the track. It was a very dramatic first lap.

Despite being forced out of the final so soon, the Volvo team was happy.

"Of course we're happy. We have had a really fantastic season in every respect. Our own engine development, environmental fuel (E85), and, well, quite simply a super season," said Christian Dahl team manager for Polestar Volvo Original Racing.

Volvo's organisation shares the team's satisfaction on this day.

"The team is not merely two racing cars going round the track. They represent us and our values with respect to our fans and customers. This year, together, we have made greener racing a reality, both at home and in the World Championships. What is even more satisfying is the fact that we have gone from vision to reality in less than a year," says Alexander Murdzevski Schedvin, head of racing at Volvo Car Sweden.
