Volvo’s timeless beauty, the Amazon, was introduced to the world for the first time 60 years ago. Named after the female warriors in Greek mythology, it is still one of the most iconic models in Volvo’s history.
1960 - Volvo presented an entirely new vehicle - a sports car. The P1800 was presented - A revolution. 1961 - In October the Amazon 121 was released. On April 24th 1964 the new Torslanda Plant was opened. Another assembly plant was opened in Ghent in Belgium in 1965. Volvo 144 was introduced in 1966 and next year was the 145 Estate introduced . 1998 came the Volvo 164, a prestige version.

This model can be described as an estate based on the 121/122S (Amazon). It made its debut at the Stockholm Motor Show in February 1962. This extension of the model range gave Volvo the most extensive programme in one and the same car family than ever before.
